The Supreme Riddle

June is off to a good start. On Saturday when only four people were scheduled, I was caught by surprise when ten people walked in during the last fifteen minutes before closing. Things got a little bit wild, but in the end, everyone floated out the door on an invisible carpet of Chi. Just prior

Stepping into the Circle of Healing

We were all born on this planet from mothers. We all share the same basic need for love, affection, food, clothing, clean water, shelter, and other requisites of survival. Without the love of our mothers, we wouldn’t be here. Without the food that farmers grow, we wouldn’t be here. Without the houses, roads, schools, transportation systems, technological discoveries and inventions and, importantly, without the wisdom of our elders, we might still be here, but things would be very different, probably a lot more difficult. Independence is – in a spiritual sense – quite at variance from the truth of reality.

Chilling out the Rice

Even when the sky seems to be falling in our world, it’s important not to lose our bearings by focusing exclusively on everything that is wrong, reminding ourselves – every day, perhaps every hour, perhaps every minute, every breath – that which is good, healthy, and conducive to hope, and connecting our own life energy to the goodness consciously. After all, we are part of this world too, and we must have done something amazing to be born here. It didn’t happen by accident. Nothing does.

Journey to the Operating Room and Beyond

My anxiety was running a little high, but I had chosen this passage and even then, knew it was exactly where I wanted to be, on the edge of my mental comfort zone, with a tenuous hand hold on the sheer cliff of the present moment. I was learning to disengage from the intense ego-attachment that the mind feels for this body. This learning to let go is the basis for peace in life and death. Surgery, from this perspective, is an opportunity to practice a dress-rehearsal for death, and, to be more centered in life.

Non-Duality

When with your eye of wisdom, you behold the still-point at the center of this motion, then you are on the path of perfection. Acupuncture is one method to realize this stillness in motion. The breath is another. Life is full of opportunities to wake up! May all beings realize the truth of non-duality and share their enlightened heart with all sentient beings.

Community is the Heart of Health

When we raise our own healing vibration through receiving acupuncture, we assist in raising the vibration of everyone else in the room, everyone we meet as we leave the building and walk down the street, everyone in the neighborhood, city, bioregion, continent, and beyond. All the more so when we consciously cultivate an intention around healing beyond our own mind-body-spirit, but also acknowledging the wider sphere of life.

Journey to Kailash

In my dream that night, I am holding a vajra‚ the symbol of enlightenment. I drop it by accident into the mud, and then quickly retrieve it, dipping it into a nearby waterfall. Once again the vajra shines. Innate purity is revealed. I hear a whisper: “This vajra mind is indestructible.” Don’t believe in ordinary conceptions. Question them again and again. Understand gross sense perception as just that. And ever look towards that which dwells beyond, the deathless.

To vaccinate or not?

Good medicine today uses all knowledge traditions as appropriate for the predisposition of the individual, respecting both the unique contexts and historical frameworks of the medicine, and the cultural predispositions of individuals. We are fortunate to live in a country which recognizes and upholds the value of such diversity and openness in today’s health care.

Community Healing Vibrations

We are all connected and although media and social conditioning often highlight our differences – skin color, age, size, ability, income, class, sexual preference, food choices, religion, and so on – these are like different colors of dye dissolved in water. It’s still water – wet, innately clear, the basis of all life.

Chinese Medicine Demystified – or How Acupuncture can Change the World

If you open a current textbook on anatomy and physiology, you are unlikely to find any reference to “subtle energy”. The prevailing notion in western science continues to view the body as composed of discrete atoms and grosser parts which comprise systems inside of a glorified machine. This is beginning to change, fortunately. The Chinese
